Le 8 mars 2021, McAfee a publié un communiqué de presse annonçant la vente de sa division « Enterprise », ainsi que son intention de se concentrer sur le marché de la sécurité grand public.
Cette nouvelle n’est pas vraiment une surprise. Nombre de grands clients se disaient en effet de plus en plus déçus, non seulement par une approche de la gestion des cyberrisques digne d’un « supermarché de la sécurité », mais également par les coûts et la complexité inhérents à la gestion et à la mise à niveau de multiples jeux d’outils incompatibles.
En outre, McAfee avait déjà échoué dans ses tentatives de mise à jour d’anciennes technologies antivirus et n’a jamais été en mesure de répondre aux attentes de clients en quête d’une solution efficace de protection, détection et remédiation (EDR) au niveau des terminaux.
